In order to succeed in being self-reliant, communities need to create a cooperative economic model for their residents.  The economic development model for Vajra Azaya is based on “Cottage Industry” delivered in a Kibbutz style.  Each community has at least some people working in “Cottage Industry Trade” that bring in revenue to the community, while other residents work in areas that build capacity for the community, and some may work outside of the community and pay rental fees.  Vajra Azaya offers a coordinated structure between the communities for resources, materials, funding or grants, trade, labor, and bulk buying power uniting all communities into a larger cooperative economic infrastructure.
